Building The Background Check Company We Want To See In The World

Background Checks   |

When John Oliver mocks your industry, something’s clearly wrong. Earlier this year, the comedian raked background check companies and credit bureaus over the coals.

His main criticism? These companies make it difficult for people to find out about – let alone correct – errors on their background information.

And the thing is, he’s not wrong.

Why No One Likes Background Checks

If anything, Oliver left out many of the complaints employers have about traditional background checks: Inaccurate or incomprehensible results, long delays, poor customer service, hidden pricing, and a disrespectful candidate experience.

Despite these hassles, employers need to know who they’re hiring. Some industries mandate background checks, and all employers have an obligation to provide a safe workplace. Then there’s the prevalance of resume fibs.

Before we started GoodHire, we heard from many employers who were desperate for a solution that fit their business needs and didn’t alienate job candidates.

So, we reinvented the background check process.

We See Employment Screening Differently

We’ve worked relentlessly toward a vision for employment screening that:

It’s part of the broader vision that GoodHire and its parent company Inflection share: That business is about more than profits. That companies have an obligation – and amazing privilege – “to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.”

That’s why I’m so proud and humbled to announce that Inflection earned the Certified B Corporation credential, which recognizes companies that consider the impact of their decisions on all shareholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, the community at large, and the health of the planet.

Fair Hiring, Compliance & The Candidate Experience

GoodHire’s mission to help employers and employees build relationships built on mutual trust, safety, and fairness played a big role in earning the certification. The GoodHire True Me candidate experience played a significant role, too, in that it empowers job seekers  to show employers a more complete story than a traditional background check does while giving employers better better information for their decisions.

Can you imagine a world in which background checks actually strengthen your relationship with new or potential hires? That the results are fast and reliable? That when you need help you’re answered by knowledgeable and friendly people? That the results help you see job candidates as they really are?

We can. And we’re making it a reality.

Let us know how we’re doing by sharing this article and your comments.
