Forget Reentry. Restorative Justice Keeps People Out Of Prison

Editor's Note: National Reentry Week has top thinkers in government, business, and community groups exploring the issues that lead to mass incarceration as well as how to help those leaving the criminal justice system.

Fania Davis, on the other hand, is working to keep people out of the systems in the first place. And that could eventually mean fewer job candidates with criminal records. 

A former civil-rights attorney, Fania now leads the nonprofit  Restorative Justice For Oakland Youth, where she works to disrupt the "school-to-prison pipeline."

We asked her to explain alternatives to our retributive justice system and how the restorative model is working in schools.
